I’m also proud of the OrthoArts team who work hard to build close relationships with every person we treat. My practice philosophy is to deliver excellent orthodontic treatment in a unique, fun, and supportive environment – and I believe we’ve achieved that.
Training and Education
I have been practicing orthodontics for more than 30 years. I worked hard throughout University and dental school to make sure that I received the highest quality education. This took my training to Basel, Switzerland and London, England before returning to Canada for additional postgraduate work in Orthodontics.
It is important to me to know and understand the latest advances in clinical practice. New techniques and technologies are constantly emerging, which means treatments are constantly improving. I want to be sure that I can always offer my patients the best outcome and care possible.
I am a member of several prestigious dental and orthodontic associations, including the American Association of Orthodontists and the Canadian Association of Orthodontists. I am a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics as well as a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentist in Orthodontics. I hold advanced accreditation in Lingual Orthodontics. I am at the forefront of research and the leading Lingual Orthodontist in Canada.
I also head the orthodontic clinic at Vancouver General Hospital and I am an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Postgraduate Orthodontic Program, teaching the art of lingual orthodontics to the next generation of Canadian orthodontists.
When I am Away from the Practice
I enjoy keeping up with the latest advances in various sciences, and doing all of the things that make me smile! I was born in BC, educated in Toronto, and since graduating in Orthodontics have lived in Vancouver for over 20 years. My wife, Lee-Ann, and I have been married for 35 years and we have two grown sons: Jason and Desmond. In my free time, I enjoy sailing, playing piano, cycling, and restoring classic cars. Both Lee-Ann and I race vintage cars and we participate in classic rally racing both locally and abroad. Our latest adventure was the Peking to Paris Rally.
I feel that supporting a community’s education efforts and the future citizens of Canada is paramount to our country’s future. One big way I can help is to spread excitement for learning and achievement among our community’s younger members. Endowing an annual scholarship program for graduating high school students in Vancouver and Whitehorse is one way I like to give back. I also sponsor a variety of sports clubs and hardworking individuals to help them achieve their athletic goals.
I often dedicate time and resources to:
- G.F Strong institute for rehabilitative medicine
- Childrens charities for Cranio-facial treatment; “Smile Train” and “Spring for Kids”
- Children’s Hospital, Vancouver
- Zajac Foundation
- Canadian National Swim Team, Vancouver and Victoria
I participated in medical/dental mission trips to the Dominican Republic and helped establish and support dental health clinics in remote regions of B.C and the Yukon as well remote clinics in the Queen Charlotte Islands and in Vietnam.
I feel privileged to know that I have helped so many people both locally and around the world. I could not ask for a better job or better people to spend my time with. I look forward to working with you.
“Everyone is always friendly and easy to talk to (for me and my daughter). Dr. Strelzow does an excellent job explaining what’s going on and is more than willing to answer my questions and takes the time to explain things without rushing.”
