Traditional Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal braces are considered the traditional devices used by orthodontist to straighten and align teeth. They are used to correct a wide variety of dental issues, including underbites, overbites, crooked teeth, and even jaw problems to name a few.

While traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces, they have come a long way over the years, and are more comfortable today than ever before. Metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel, metal brackets and archwires that adhere to your teeth during your treatment. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.

Today there are many treatment options available for anyone needing to correct their smile with the help of a dental brace. Read through our “braces” section to get a full understanding of the different products available to you. Dr. Strelzow will go through each one in more detail during your visit.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
